Can’t wait for the summer to get a higher daily dose of Vitamin D? Why not book a last minute holiday to sunny Spain? In case you haven’t noticed, this country is one of the most popular places for last minute holidays in the sun, especially amongst its northern European neighbors who may be experiencing the chill of winter. Here are three of the places in Spain where the sun always seems to shine and are always welcoming of visitors from anywhere in the world.
Alicante[i] is located in the southeastern Iberian Peninsula and has been drawing in crowds for many years. The thought of dealing with crowds at a popular destination such as this may discourage you at first. Consider this though: with many hotels to choose from, it will be easy to find cheap accommodation if ever you decide to have lastminute holidays in the sun on a whim. Getting into the city is also easy with many transportation options such as air, train, tram, or bus.
The Balearic Islands, especially the largest one called Majorca or Mallorca are also a top draw in Spain for those who want some sun, sea, and fun. Simply put, there are a lot of white sandy beaches to choose from. Many of the hotels by the beach can be booked at a cheap rate at the last minute if booked through a travel agent. Reaching the island by plane can also be achieved at an affordable price even at the last minute since there are many discount airlines with daily flights from major European cities to the Palma de Mallorca airport.
If you prefer last minute holidays in the sun spent at a less crowded place, head off to the Costa Brava, particularly the fishing village of Tossa de Mar. It is one of the least developed places on the Spanish Mediterranean coast and therefore lesser crowds to share the beach with. Discount airlines such as Ryanair have regular flights to the Girona-Costa Brava airport. If your last minute holiday lasts longer than the weekend, you might want to rent a car to explore the adjacent coastal cities in the region.
