Kruger Luxury African Safari

If you ever wanted to go on an African safari, Kruger Park has got to be amongst the top choices.

With an area of almost 20,000 m², the size of Israel, a Kruger Safari will get you up close and personal with some of the most wonderful mammals on the face of the planet, all in a setting amongst rushing rivers, rushing through open savannah and passing by the odd rocky outcrop.

Kruger national park started out life in 1898 in order to create a game reserve, initially started in order to protect the number of animals in the park and to control hunting.

The best time of year to take a Kruger National Park package is in the winter time because the weather is much milder and your chances of contracting malaria are much reduced.

Along with that, your viewing experience will be much better because animals are drawn towards the watering holes in the morning and evening, giving you a greater view with the vegetation being much sparser.

Before we take a look at a Kruger luxury African safari, let’s take a look and see the types of accommodation in general.

Kruger National Park Safari Accommodation

The accommodation the Kruger National Park is split up into 15 designated private safari lodges, 2 private large concessions, and 21 Rest Camps.

The designated private safari lodges offer luxury at both affordable and exclusive prices.

The private concessions at Kruger National Park are essentially large sections of land which have been leased to private operators, providing luxury lodges with five star accommodation, fantastic cuisine, and expertly trained trackers and game rangers.

The 21 rest-camps have electricity, a shop, communal kitchen facilities, a first aid centre, laundry, self-service cafeteria or restaurant, a petrol station and public telephones.

They also have different types of accommodation from self-catering units with appliances to self-catering units without appliances … you’ll have to bring your own cooker.

Self-Drive Kruger National Park Tour

One of the more popular choices is the self-drive option, where you take your own vehicle into the park at one of the 10 entry gates.

The park has a criss-cross of tarmac roads and a fair smattering of gravel roads.

It is recommended that you never get out of your car unless you are in a designated rest spot … remember that in this place you are the main course.

Take your time… your time within the park is only limited during school holidays when you can stay for a maximum of 10 days.

The speed limit in the park is 50 km/h on the tarmac roads and 40 km/h on the gravel roads but you can expect to experience plenty of blockages on the road from herds of elephants to hardnosed Rhinos, a cheeky monkey family, or perhaps just the odd curious impala.
