Okay, so this is the place where you’ll find all the links about holiday cottages … the Holiday Cottages Guide, so to speak.
There are all different types of holiday cottage available, or in the form of come in the form of from those quaint thatched roofed cottages that you find in Devon and Cornwall, to the humble farmers and fishermen’s cottages that you’ll find dotted along the west of Ireland with their open fires and down-to-earth furniture.
It’s one of my favourite ways of spending a holiday … where else can you have the peace and tranquillity, the freedom to come and go as you please, and such a wonderful and diverse choice of locations.
I mean, you can choose to take a cottage up in the Highlands of Scotland, anywhere along the beautiful western coast of Ireland, or how about pitching for a cottage in the Rocky Mountains (although that come in the form of a log cabin or some of the more American structure, but you know what I mean).
Most holiday cottages have an individual character of their own, usually added to lovingly by the owners.
I recently visited Killarney for a long weekend. I’d never been down in that neck of the woods before so the location was new to me.
We decided to rent a holiday cottage with Killarney Lakeland Cottages … what a great experience.
We took a taxi into the town in the evening, spent a great night with some wonderful traditional Irish music, came back to the cottage later that evening, lit an open fire with turf that we had bought earlier on in the day, cracked open a bottle of Spanish red wine and settled back to a beautiful evening. How bad!
You just couldn’t get that in a Hotel.
