Purchasing chocolate for Valentine’s Day is a billion-dollar industry. More chocolate is purchased by men for their loved ones on the days, hours, and minutes before Valentine’s Day than at any other time. It is also thought to be the first day when birds start mating with each other. So, maybe your holidays in February can to coincide with a visit to some romantic location for Valentine’s Day, Paris or Rome perhaps.
Groundhog Day is celebrated on 2 February. This day was made famous by the film of the same name which was made in 1993. The movie was set in a town called Punxsutawney in Pennsylvania, and featured Punxsutawney Phil, a real-life groundhog. This is a real town in Pennsylvania where the largest Groundhog Day celebrations are held. It is said that if the groundhog comes out of its burrow and sees its own shadow, it will retreat and winter will continue for another six weeks. If it is cloudy, spring is on its way. So if you can risk being stuck in a time warp where you live the same day over and over again, you could visit Pennsylvania to see what little Phil’s decision is going to be.
If you’re living in northern Europe, you might want to consider cheap February holidays in Spain or Italy. Destinations such as Alicante, or even further south to Granada or Seville, offer great value when it comes to holiday accommodations, car rental, and flights.
