If your interest in having a great time lies on the borders of being in the great outdoors and getting in touch with raw nature, then maybe becoming a member of the camping and caravan club is something you might want to look into. Being part of the club will simplify your next camping trip and many more to come.
Started in 1901 by the founder of modern camping, Thomas Hiram Holding, the Camping and Caravan Club was then known as the Association of Cycle Campers before changing its name twice in 1919 and 1983 to its present incarnation. With several hundred members, it opened its first camping site in Weybridge in 1906. By 1967, its members were up to 100,000 and had increased to 300,000 by the beginning of the 21st century. At present, the club holds to up to 480,000 members worldwide.
Celebrated every year since its centennial in 2001, the National Camping and Caravanning Week set records for the most people camping and caravanning at one time. In May 24, 2008 the club registered 96000 people camping out overnight. This year 2011, the club is advertising “The Big Pitch” campaign, which is their attempt to beat their own record.
What you should know about camping and caravan club:
- The club believes that camping makes a person rich in mind, body and soul. Whether it is spending time away from the stress of the workplace, going on an adventure trail with friends, or just bonding over a campfire with the family, the club believes that camping will increase the overall level of happiness that a person experiences.
- Because the club has a Countryside Care section that provides members the opportunity of contributing towards the enjoyment of nature by constructing footpaths, clearing hedges, and planting trees, it is only proper that its leader and president is David Bellamy, a multi-awarded author, environmentalist and author.
- The club has more than one hundred camp sites that have been awarded for providing the best quality care that any camper may desire. These multi-awarded sites have been catering to more than 2 million campers per year.
- Because they have been very resourceful with activities throughout their sites in the UK, the club keeps its members and guests updated by constantly working with media organizations. They provide schedules for upcoming events that any camper may have an interest in, as well as improvements, achievements and awards that the club has achieved.
