The third month of the year, March, is a great time to pack your bags and leave home for a well-deserved break. The Mediterranean is a great place to head towards for your March holidays because this is the start of spring according to the old Roman calendar. In fact, it is the time when the Romans started their military campaigns, the winter was over and the weather would be much more conducive to starting a big fight.

A few facts about March include it is one of seven months which are 31 days long. It is the equivalent of the southern hemispheres September. It is the meteorological beginning of spring … March 1. It starts on the same day of the week as November every single year and February in those coming years. March also finishes on the exact same day as June every single year. Enough baloney? … here’s your five reasons …
The first reason why you should head away for your holidays in March is because it is the beginning of spring. Although this doesn’t guarantee you to always have good weather, you are still going to get better temperatures than you would if you travelled in the preceding two months. The daffodils are popping their little heads up, trees are starting to bud, and there is a beautiful sense of newness in the air.
The second reason why you should travel in your vacation in at this time of the year is because when it comes to cheap holidays, March is one of the best times of the month to take advantage of cheap prices when it comes to accommodation and flights. March is a very pleasant month in Spain, Portugal, and many other southern European countries. But having said that, not many people are going to visit at this time of the year so prices are still going to be relatively low.
The third reason why you should take your March holidays it is that you can coincide with many different significant dates throughout Europe, or indeed the world. For instance, March 8 is International women’s Day. For some great fun, entertainment, and perhaps in green pint of Guinness, you can travel to Ireland for the March 17 St Patrick’s Day parades and celebrations, indeed the festival runs over a few days in modern times and is more about the craic than anything else. Travelling to Spain during the month of March will mean that you may be able to take part in some of the Easter celebrations that happen around Easter weekend. But, the celebration of Easter can vary anywhere between March 20 and April 23, you may miss the festivities altogether.
As your fourth reason, why not try one of the many fabulous ski March holidays that are available. The higher pistes still have plenty of snow and the cost may be a bit cheaper. A couple of really good ski resorts to try during March are Zermatt or Verbier. Or for some cheaper deals you could try the High Tatras in Slovakia. These slopes offer some of the best skiing in Europe. And believe it or not, the Sierra Nevada in southern Spain offers some excellent skiing at this time of the year. The beauty about this place is that you can partake in your skiing and within a couple of hours be down on the warm sunny beaches.
The final reason for you to head away for March holidays is because you are going to avoid all the crowds. To me, this is one of the best times to go. This is especially true if you want to visit one of the popular tourist cities of the world. March is always a time when tourism is at its minimum, except during the Easter weekend. You can avoid all the hassle of crowds, get into restaurants fairly easily, and many of the tourist attractions that are in full swing during the summer months, are just opening their doors at the beginning of March.
